I have a seven year old son, he's the love of my life, the greatest thing that I've ever been treated to in my life, and he came to set a few times and on the last day he was there he leaned over to me and pulled my arm and said Daddy, I think I want to be Lara Croft. I suppose to summarize that answer, my answer that question, the most effective way to do it through the story and that is in my. Walton Goggins: I suppose I haven’t said this anywhere else, so I’ll say it here. So, what is Lara Croft now especially since you've been a part of this franchise now, what does she mean to you now? But I didn't know that you didn't play the games or anything like that, but that's interesting because what I was going to ask you next is, obviously Lara Croft is such an iconic character and now we're starting to see the empowerment of the female lead actress in films now, but she was doing this, Lara Croft the character was doing this twenty years ago almost. Walton Goggins: Who doesn’t know about Tomb Raider? I mean, I'm sure you knew about Tomb Raider. Screen Rant: That's really interesting you said that, because that was my next question. judging this based on the merits of the story. I didn't want to, because I think that I knew that there would be enough people around this project that understood the ins and outs of this game and knew how to service as you have to as you should and as you are expected to the devoted followers of this Herald and - but I also felt that you know, somebody needed to be at the table that is. Walton Goggins: Yeah, well that's very kind of you to say, you know I've never seen the movies and I've never played the video game and once these conversations kind of began in earnest. Screen Rant: I'm actually glad you said that because obviously, this is a video game franchise, but it's just a great movie, just in general, like you can take a video game, the Tomb Raider out of that, this is just a good movie, it’s a lot of fun. Pick up my sci-fi novel series, The Earthborn Trilogy, which is now in print, online and on audiobook.Walton Goggins: Well, you know, I suppose because I didn't think of it as participating in the Tomb Raider franchise, you know, that early on I just looked at the story and the story that I read was so good and so I think if you start from that point and you look at the incredible Alicia Vikander playing her and imagining kind of what her interpretation of this character would be and this director Roar Utwang, I loved his movie, The Wave and the great Graham King is one of my favorite producers, he’s Martin Scorsese’s producer for Christ’s Sake and I felt like I could do something, I could say something, or help them achieve. Perhaps there’s more footage to come, but for now, this is a little tough to get excited it about.įollow me on Twitter and on Facebook. While I think Lara Croft’s evolution from preposterously proportioned sex symbol to grizzled badass was a good change, we’re going to need more than just a “grittier” Lara to make this work on film.Īgain, it’s just a minute-long spot and I want to give the movie the benefit of the doubt. Despite that game’s success, it still wasn’t exactly one of the most memorable video game stories out there, and not on par with say, the Uncharted series in that regard. The Tomb Raider video game reboot, which this movie is be based on to some extent, was good, but mostly for its gameplay systems. Again, the cast is excellent, I just hope the final product is more than a generic action film, which is the vibe I’m currently getting. Will this new Tomb Raider be it? I hope so, but this trailer didn’t reassure me. Despite high profile releases the past few years, we are still looking for our first truly great video game movie adaptation, in my opinion. But director pedigree is far from a guarantee when it comes to making video game films, as Duncan Jones’ Warcraft demonstrates, and the same goes for impressive trailers, something Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed movie had, but the final product was still lacking. It was…fine, but nothing revolutionary, and I’m hoping he’s able to create something more compelling here. The Norwegian is best known for his film The Wave, about a crushing tidal wave wiping out a town, and I actually went out of my way to watch it when I heard he was directing this film. I am also unsure about Roar Uthaug in the director’s chair, despite having one of the coolest names of all time. I stand by my original take that it all comes across as a bit generic, as the longer version does not change that). The structure is the same, just with a few more scenes to flesh it out. It's two minutes, twice the length of the original that was posted by Wu earlier. ( Update: WB has posted the trailer online officially now.
